When I first started my Direct Sales business all I had to do was think about promoting myself and feelings of panic would rise.

If I found myself in a position to network, whether with mums from school, work colleagues or at an actual networking event I felt awkward and lost for words. Now for those of you that know me, you may find this hard to believe but trust me, I was a gibbering mess! I was so afraid people would think I was pushy and leave me out in the cold, that I sat back and let opportunities pass me by.
I remember one day I took my catalogues up to school to share with a couple of mums but when I got there I was too scared to get them out of my bag. I was terrified they would think I was pushy and rather than be on the outer I said nothing about my business and made idle chit chat instead.

Then as fate would have it another mum joined us and after taking a few moments for a brief catch up, began sharing catalogues promoting a similar range of products to mine. Within five minutes she had secured a party booking and I still had my catalogues in my hand bag!

At first I was a little annoyed with the other mum. I mean to say, who did she think she was breezing in with all that confidence and taking a booking right from under my nose. All I needed was a little more time to feel comfortable and that booking would have been mine.

Truth was when I got over being annoyed and feeling sorry for myself, I realised that this wonderful mum had just given me the wake up call I needed to get moving! Truth was, if I continued to sit there with catalogues in my bag, hoping that someone would ask to see them I was going to be waiting a mighty long time!
